Firms such as mutual fund companies, security issuers, transfer agents and broker/dealers offer AccuBasis to their investors as a way to calculate cost-basis information for tax purposes and to determine the unrealized gains or loss of a securities position.
Any firm, including participants and non-participants, can use AccuBasis and offer it to their clients.
AccuBasis is available through different platforms and applications that fit the needs of a wide variety of financial service companies. The application can be designed to look as if it is the company's own Web site and can be customized to meet the specific needs of a firm's end customers, such as investors, portfolio managers and managers of employee stock purchase plans.
Customers log on to the company's Web site and click on the cost-basis link, which brings them to the AccuBasis Web site. They then input some basic information - the security name or CUSIP or ticker symbol and the approximate date of purchase - the year will do. AccuBasis retrieves the information from its database - which houses security pricing dating back to 1925 - and automatically calculates the changes caused by stock splits, mergers, dividend reinvestments and every possible corporate actions, using it to deliver accurate, adjusted cost basis - all in a matter of minutes.
